Peres Center for Peace

Mika invited me to the graduation ceremony of the Women's Empowerment Program, Jaffa (WEP) at the Peres Center for Peace. This program, sponsored by the Arab-Jewish Community Center, the Peres Center and Cisco, is a high-tech training course for women. As graduates, the women will be able to get jobs in the rapidly growing high-tech economy of Israel.

The Peres Center is a beautiful new building overlooking the sea in the Jaffa section of Tel Aviv. I was very happy to attend this beautiful ceremony. Mika's choir (Arab and Jewish women from the Jaffo neighborhood) performed at the opening of the graduation. The women graduates, their families and the sponsors of the program were each so proud to be a part of this wonderful event. Programs like these are not frequently commented on in the press -- but it is exactly programs like WEP and Mika's choir which should be celebrated in this part of the world where problems often overshadow the good. (not the best picture from the event... but you get the idea!!)
