A day in Alexandria: The Library, Catacombs, A Magnificent Garden and the first really good food!

This library is really one of the most interesting places I have ever been. There are hundreds of thousands of books here -- and while they don't circulate, you can pay for a digitized copy and get one within minutes, depending on the number of pages... Barbara -- you should check into this!! There were printing presses and modern art on display as well. The design allows for mostly natural light and there is something else about the design that handles the noise factor.

Prior to seeing the library, affectionately called "BibAlex", we went to the catacombs and saw the roman version of the pyramids! No pictures allowed -- sorry.

We took a long drive through the city pretty run down, in most parts, but there is the beginning of some renovating starting with a brand new Four Seasons Hotel overlooking the sea. We found the best food in Egypt here -- at the Fish Market -- and of course, we couldn't leave without trying some of the local pastries. A long day, but a really good one, because originally, we didn't think we would make it to "Alex"!
